When Happy Wheels Skating Center in Portland closed in December of 2019, it left a void for both kids and adults that enjoyed the old school hobby as a different day out in town. While Happy Wheels continues to construct their new home on Warren Avenue in Westbrook, families who are looking to keep their skills sharp can roller skate for free on select nights at the newly-renovated Cornelia Warren Rink located at 58 Lincoln Street in Westbrook.

Shared on Facebook by Westbrook Community Center, the four-season rink had its ribbon cutting earlier in June. The renovations have turned the rink into a true four-season destination, offering in-line and roller skating during the warmer months and eventually ice skating when the weather turns cold again. Since the rink is a community project, it is available to use free-of-charge most days, with certain evenings reserved in advance for different organized activities.

If you're looking to recapture that feeling of a fun 'family night out', twice per month, there are 'free skate Fridays' at the Cornelia Warren rink. Kids sessions run from 6-8pm and adult sessions run from 8-10pm. Open sessions are available when the schedule is clear of events.

If you're planning on visited the outdoor rink for some skating, you'll need to bring your own skates. Currently, there are no roller skate rentals available but there could be in the future. Additionally, there are no restrooms on-site at this time. Lastly, the park rules state that you 'skate at your own risk' so be advised.
